Adventure in Martinique: hiking on the island of flowers

Martinique is known for the birthplace of Napoleon Bonaparte's first wife, and is a gorgeous place overall with scenic views and activities to fill your itinerary. One of such activities is hiking, and for a fun hiking experience, here are a few suggestions.

Bibliothèque Schœlcher – Cathédrale Saint-Louis Loop from Baie des Touterelles-Nord

This is considered an easier hike, but does not yield when it comes to providing a fun hiking experience. It has easily accessible paths on foot, and traveling to this location can be done by car. Some highlights and attractions to look out for include the Cathedrale Saint-Louis, Fort Saint Louis and the Leguan-Weg; all of which make for a fun hiking experience. Perfect for all fitness levels.

Bibliothèque Schœlcher – Cathédrale Saint-Louis Loop from Fort-de-France

This is considered an intermediate hike, and works to give a challenge to hikers for a fun hiking experience. The starting point of this tour is right next to a parking lot, and therefore is perfectly accessible by car. Otherwise, all paths leading to this tour are easily accessible by foot. Some highlights and attractions to look out for are the Park La Savane, Die geköpfte Joséphine and the Empress Josephine de la Pagerie. This tour would make for a fun hiking experience, especially for those looking for a more physically challenging experience.

Coast – Coast Loop from Le Diamant

This is another easy hike, but still has plenty of attractions and locations that make it a fun hiking experience. The location is as the name implies, by the coast, and is therefore most easily accessed by foot. This tour is different from the others listed thus far as it provides natural attractions in contrast to man-made ones. Some of these include the fauna and flora of the coastlines—of which bring about a uniquely fun hiking experience. This tour is well suited for sightseeing with kids, loved ones, or even lovers.

Grand Rivière to Prêcheur

This is a considerably hard hike, with ranges of altitudes from 40m to 359m. It is situated in the heart of a tropical forest, ripe with bright and vibrant greenery, along with the vast cool breeze filtering in from the nearby sea. This tour is accessible by car, due to parking available nearby, and due to its difficulty, it is recommended that you make your return by boat. The tour includes different views of the canal of Dominica and the village of Grand’Rivière. While any of these would make for a fun hiking experience, a change in pace is understandable. THE BAHI VILLA offers a plethora of fun and engaging activities; perfect for any occasion.
